I really wanted to make the Slow Cooker Chocolate Raspberry Lava Cake to review for FrugalThymes. Made a special trip to the grocery store to buy the few ingredients that I didn’t have in.

When I got home I realized that I had forgotten to take the butter out of the refrigerator. I really didn’t want to wait for the butter to come up to room temperature, so I googled how to speed up the process.

This video from Cooks Illustrated shows a very easy way to accomplish softening butter. Of course, I couldn’t find my rolling pin (I’m not much of a baker), so I used my meat mallet. Worked great.
